The Effect of the 1913 Armory Show on Americans
The Armory Show had a huge effect on collectors and artists. The show also changed the perception of beauty. Henry Matisse's Blue Nude got many negative reviews because the woman in the painting didn't resemble the idealistic body type. Americans were not used to seeing different types of art and were eventually threatened because new styles (Cubism and fauvism) were styles you needed to adopt to become a modern artist. Newspapers gave the show a bad review, and a lot of the attention at the Armory Show went towards European artists, making Americans angry. Americans began to adopt to the new styles, creating a wider range of art in America. The show also changed the perception of beauty.
