The Great Mexican Revolutionary law and the Freedom of SlavesPainted by Jose Clemente Orozoco in 1949
In this painting the first thing that you see is the man in the center who is signing document, that man is Miguel Hidalgo. This painting shows the suffering of the people in the background you can see the slaves going through harsh conditions like their hands are tied, bags placed over their head, and your able to see their ribs because they aren't being feed . Then the word "Liberta" (Liberty) it's the document that Miguel is holding given the freedom to the slaves. This painting also portrays the signing of the Reforma, which was the first important step modernize Mexico and make it into a nation state. The people at the bottom that are signing the Reforma, are major people who were fighting for the equality of people. Those people are Benito Juarez, Emiliano Zapata, Venus Tiano Carranza, and José Maria Morelo. I believe what really makes this picture great is the color because it portrays the historic things that were going on. |
The RevolutionariesPainted by David Alfaro Siqueiros in 1964
This is the painting of the revolutionaries that went against the government. The people of Mexico were tired of the government taking away everything they owned. What I think is amazing is that in this mural that everyone is united and they all come together to fight for what they believe in. Then if you notice women played a major role in this rebellion because they treated and cared for the men through this battle for justice. Also the color for this is bright, which is showing us the viewer that this rebellion is a new light or path to getting equality. |
Exploitation of Mexico by Spanish ConquistadorsPainted by Diego Rivera in 1929
This is a significant picture about the Spanish arriving, which lead them to taking over Mexico. Through the color and great detail were are able to see what the Spanish did, but also what Mexico had to go through. Through this painting your able really able to see what the people of Mexico had to go through under Spanish control. Like you can see the Mexican people losing everything they have, doing all the hard labor, getting whipped, and some of them were hanged and killed. Then what really interests me is the detail face of the animals by looking at their face you can see how exhausted they are. This is a great mural because it really shows how harsh life was for Mexicans, but also it showed what the country had to go through to become what it is today. |
